What is the ASVAB?
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is a multi-aptitude test used by every branch of the U.S. military to determine your qualifications for enlistment and match you with the right career field.
AFQT Score
Your Armed Forces Qualification Test score comes from 4 subtests and determines if you can enlist. It is a percentile (1-99) based on a 1997 national sample of 18-23 year-olds.
Line Scores & Jobs
Beyond the AFQT, your individual subtest scores create composite "line scores" that determine which military jobs you qualify for. Each branch uses its own composite formulas. Higher scores unlock more career options.
Example: The Army's GT (General Technical) line score combines AR + PC + WK. A GT of 110+ opens jobs like Cyber Operations and Intel Analyst.
Retake policy: Wait 1 month after first attempt, 1 more month for a second retake, then 6 months after that. Scores are valid for 2 years.
